The 10-minute guide to starting any business

Today’s Idea Lab was sparked by last week’s guest on the podcast, Seamus Fahy. He shared his strategy for gaining a waitlist of hundreds of customers before launching his business.

This is the exact same strategy that I used to launch my current business, HostButlers. I am going to break this down for you step-by-step so you can test any business idea for under €500 and with less than 20 hours work.

Feel the fear & do it anyway

The number one thing that prevents people from starting a business is fear of failure. But it doesn’t have to be so hard. You can launch your idea without needing to have everything figured out. You will change 99% of your idea anyway and this is the quickest way to get solid feedback.

Once you have a few ideas for a business, the best way to figure out what’s going to work is simply to launch it. I’m going to show you exactly how to do that today.

Fake it till you make it

The launch formula

  1. Create simple & clean branding using Upwork

  2. Build a SIMPLE website using Squarespace

  3. Share it to your network via Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Product Hunt, Reddit, etc

  4. Create Facebook/Instagram ads using Canva and run a few hundred euros worth of ads to drive traffic to your site.

  5. Review how many people have clicked the “Buy Now” button. If people aren’t clicking, review the messaging and tweak.

This Week

Listening

The My First Million podcast with Tai Lopez, the controversial internet marketer.

Watching

I watch certain podcasts on YouTube while working. This week, I watched Joe Rogan’s chat with David Blaine.

Reading

Last Man Off by Matt Lews. Continuing my trends of reading non-business books, I’m reading this mad story of a trawler that sinks in Antartica hundreds of miles from land or other ship.
